I'd never thought of that. China could have bought some of this land, to spy on even more effectively. And I'm sure D.R. Horton was lined up buy a good chunk of it, so it could sell even more $1M homes to help alleviate the shortage of affordable housing.
Ya I pointed out how terrible the language was around who could buy things a couple times in this thread. The hilariously sad thing IT WAS LEE’S PROPOSAL! He could have added the safeguards himself!! Just an incredible lack of awareness or just straight up lying (probably both).

Everyone should read Mike Lee's statement linked by maff. It's...entertaining to say the least.

Yeah the feds have/do mismanage public land, but like someone suggested upthread it's the best bad alternative that we currently have, and his proposal didn't look anything like a better approach.

The people spoke. Yay democracy!

Lol at "Massive swaths of the West are being locked away from the people who live there". I live there and the only thing locking me out of the hikes I want to do are the private property signs.

Seriously. I have no idea what that even means. And in many cases the people that live there want protections for the land like the National Monuments that Biden designated in California right before he left office.

It means he's lying to you. The entire statement is a series of lies. Stop giving these people the benefit of the doubt. They are not governing in good faith.

Yep. Only sold to "american families", RIIIIGGHHHTTT. Not to developers or billionaires seeking trophy ranches.

I believe he meant "massive swaths of Utah are being locked away from the specific constituency who stand to benefit from this proposal." That explains why the gentleman from Utah keeps trying to put it on the table, despite that no other Republicans who know what "public land" is want this. Just bad politics.
