Dude.... So hardcore
I dunno - if they run/ride *from their house* for EVERY mountain excursion... that's pretty impressive.

It's just a question of style, that's all. I'm not hardcore, I just don't want to spend my journeys in the mountains driving as high as possible before I get out and start hiking. That and I don't want to beat up my little 2wd car, so I'm fine parking at the bottom and working for it.

That's the style I enjoy but everyone does it differently, so to each their own.

And no, I don't do that. But I agree, the self-powered folks--Justiner and Joe Grant--are tough as nails.

After moving here (rentals before that), a 2003 Ford Escape. I wanted a piece of crap car I could run into the ground. That's exactly what I got, and exactly what I did.

1985 Toyota Camry, manual. I got it all the way to the standard Mount Princeton trailhead with some careful driving and a couple of bumps.

1997 Mercury Cougar XR7. Mine had a spoiler though which was helpful to pull on because it was RWD and would often get stuck in the snow with it's bald tires! Sleeping in that car really sucked! #XR7LIFE \:D/

1997 Honda Civic. With a manual transmission it could go anywhere. No need for a jeep when you have a cheap car that can be trashed up. I made it up to Lake Como once with a little help from my boy lifting the car over a few of the obstacles.

1969 Jeepster Commando that I bought from one of my uncles in 1978. He lived in Colorado but obviously that thing came from back east somewhere.3 speed manual tranny, manual hubs and a Buick Dauntless V-6 with dual exhausts and no pollution control gizmos. Back in the day with not so much traffic on I-70 I drove that Jeepster from Silverthorne to the tunnel at approx 90 mph. It was hard to tell how fast because the speedometer needle was wavering too much. Made it to several 4wd trail heads like North Halfmoon ,Huron ,Castle , Holy Cross City and a bunch of other places. For a time it was my only vehicle but I have been driving 4x4 pickups since 1980. I sure had some fun times with the Jeep Heep. Sold it in 1982 :)
