Except for a few peaks, there usually isn't much traffic on the 14ers between October and May, even on the weekends. It's a good time to climb.
I'm old, slow and fat. Unfortunately, those are my good qualities.

Hmm... I did a 14er on a Sunday in August and saw zero people hiking car to car. Those alternate routes, they do have something going for them!
Climb the mountain so you can see the world, not so the world can see you.

I wonder when the State will get more involved with cleaning up after their Frankenstein growth experiment. Surely the increased tax revenue can be used to better regulate usage and access in the name of preservation?
Won't hold my breath.

How/why is the State of Colorado responsible for the "Frankenstein growth experiment? " People move here. The State can't stop that.

Or wait... I think that violates LNT principles. I'm conflicted.

Even the western slope has felt the impact of the population growth, look at the towns there and how much they’ve grown in the past 20 years, Montrose population grew 45% from 2000 to 2010!! And the 13ers too, and the 14ers are crowded year round now, I counted 20 people in mount Wilson when I skied it in may!! Insane!!
