Like where illusion7il was caught lying?
Tallgrass that was a question NOT a statement, notice the question mark, so therefor can not be a lie. I was trying to have a productive conversation about the NW face of LB.

Personally, what i am not fine with is this: People recommending class 3 routes to people on this forum who say they are first timers... especially without mentioning that their recommended route is class 3... and especially when those people just can't stop doing so...

Hey Jamie;

I see you are new to 14ers.com. How sad that this thread on the forum is your first experience. Take heart. The BS might fade away. Might not. Ignore what is not interesting. Take good info by selective reading of trip reports, peak conditions and trailhead reports. These blowhards on the forum seem never to tire of themselves.

Answer to your question, from which we seem to have gotten well offtrack, after 25 years of camping and climbing in Colorado, and leaving camp with tent and gear behind more times than I can count, I have never had anything stolen. Maybe those were the good old days? But so far, no one else I know has reported any different.

thieves seem limited to bears, marmots, raccoons, mice and other varmints. As previously mentioned, take your wallet, take your cellphone.

What class is the third most popular 14er for "first timers"?

Really I find this whole thread pretty confusing. My personal OPINION is that Halo Ridge of Holy Cross is not a good recommendation for a first 14'er, nor is any Class 3 route, even if Longs does happen to be popular in that list.

Camping at East Cross Creek should be plenty secure to leave camp pitched while hiking.

I'm also confused that TG would recommend Halo; looks like he tried that route as his first 14'er but didn't make it to the summit on the first attempt.

And lastly, it's not surprising that the original poster of this thread hasn't stayed logged in, this is a disaster.

It was the first one I did and wasn't bad, just long. Pack plenty of water (3+ L) as you don't cross a source going CW once you leave the TH until coming down off MotHC at ECC (TR for route beta).

Ironic given first comment.
Not sure where the irony is... in both quotes, i indicate that i like the Halo route, but not as an over-nighter (which was what the OP was looking for).

1. Where did the first attempt start from and why? (Hint: Not the standard TH.) 2. How did ridge conditions differ between the first and second time? Apples and oranges. ;)

I also opted for some c3 that first go - scrambling is fun!

 Obvious? Is that your best counter argument, "Brad2"? Why should the OP evaluate his own abilities when you're here to do it for him with electronic omniscience.
It would indeed appear that this is obvious to all but one.

Sending first-timers on a class 3 variation without telling them that it is a class 3 variation? Not good for obvious safety reasons...

When someone points this out, you have several options to respond:
a) just let it stand as is,
b) thank the person for clarifying the difficulty, or
c) go on on on to argue why you are right nonetheless.

Why choose option c) every single time?
