I drive from Montrose to Telluride every day, sometimes twice. The change in color is striking, and noticeable day to day. Today was the most striking, but I hit Dallas Divide just about 1 hour before sunset, which gave some nice backlight to the leaves. 10 days ago it was summer, no color at all. Today, it is 50% to peak. That said, it will be an average year. Lots of dead trees from SAD and a fair amount of drought stricken, green to brown, foliage.

I spent the weekend on Kebler Pass, just barely starting to change. Small pockets but like I said, barely. However, tundra is on fire.

Yesterday we drove from RMNP/Grand Lake to Buena Vista, and there were some gorgeous patches north of Silverthorne on 9. If I remember my geography correctly, there was also nice color on 34 along Lake Granby. But the highlight was on 9.

Colors are popping along Castle Creek Road. I also drove all of Indy Pass and Weston Pass yesterday, both also popping. Albeit, I was very confused by patches of groves that are very obviously past peak (or bare) now. Made me wonder if certain pockets of moisture did a number recently. Between being in BV last Tuesday vs. being there yesterday, there's been a dramatic, beautiful uptick in colors.

Sept 24th. Maroon Bells area I would guess to be 25 - 30% peak. In the Telluride area as of Saturday the 23rd maybe 15% peak.

I took advantage of a week working remotely in Leadville and drove up Weston Pass for a sunset hike of Weston Pk and Ptarmigan Pk today. Posting this from Weston Peak. Full conditions report with more pics later.

I haven’t driven Weston Pass since July 2013 and totally forgot how many aspens there were on the Leadville side.

A couple days out from peak colors, and a brilliant mix of gold, orange, burnt red, and neon green.
