Multi-day backpacking recommendations

Post by Jako »

Hello all. I'll try to keep this short, as I'm sure this gets asked a lot. I'm going to be coming in to Denver to visit a friend around the third week of June. I'll then then have 5-6 days on my own to go backpacking. I've done Four pass loop and Indian Peaks previously. I'm looking for some recommendations for either a 30-50 mile loop or some shorter treks I could string together. I'm eyeing the grand loop in rmnp right now. The loops in Weminuche look appealing too, but the drive looks fairly long (and a train is required?). Any starting points to get the ball rolling would be appreciated.

Thanks

You might consider doing something in the Flat Tops Wilderness. There are numerous loop options. I'm planning a 5 day loop with my daughter in late June and have been getting pretty excited about the incredible scenery, lakes full of fish, and lots of wildlife. There are a few peaks (highest is a 12er I believe) but mostly high grassy plateaus. We're looking forward to seeing and exploring the "Chinese Wall" and the "Devil's Causeway."

Snowfall is below normal to slightly above normal in the Flat Tops, but be aware that even so those mountains get more snow than most of the mountains in Colorado. June will probably still have a fair amount of snow and lots of mosquitoes later in the month. It's still a good time to go; just be ready for it.

Anyway, when the time gets closer you can probably drop me a line and I could let you know. I can see the Flat Tops from around my house.
