ROCK!!!

Post by Furthermore »

Someone forwarded this one to me today; pretty wild. Apparently it came from MP.

I could see that happening in the Elks.

Or,

Where talus comes from.

Aye carumba!
"Quicker than I can tell it, my hands failed to hold, my feet slipped, and down I went with almost an arrow’s rapidity. An eternity of thought, of life, of death, wife, and home concentrated on my mind in those two seconds. Fortunately for me, I threw my right arm around a projecting boulder which stood above the icy plain some two or three feet." Rev. Elijah Lamb

Looks like YouTube has another video of that same rockfall but from another perspective:

Missouri Mountain on 8/11/2012; we barely had time to grab the camera. One of the rocks was car-sized:

How did they know to have their cameras ready and rolling? Snippet from a longer film planned to catch something else?

Mtnman200, I can almost smell that sulfur-esque odor of smashing granite. Amazing how quick and far the scent can reach, like around the next gully for even a small rock. Can smell it when crushing rock for CFI work but it doesn't carry far (hand hammer) but the distance it does of a rock hitting something falling down a gully conjures up joule magnitudes based on scent dispersion.

Above video links changed to in-line viewing:
