Current Sangre (S Colony) Conditions?
The South Colony Lakes SNOTEL site looks like it received a couple inches of snow in the last few days - does anyone have eyes on the mountains the in Westcliffe area? Tomorrow (Saturday the 9th) looks like a perfect day for Humboldt, but would like to have an idea of what to expect up there (and whether I would regret not changing over to snow tires yet). Thanks!

Here's a photo of the Crestones and Humboldt's east side taken a few minutes ago from my house. It snowed a considerable amount Wednesday night but it was very isolated and select. At least five inches fell at my house but just a few miles north only got a light dusting. It seems the southern Wets got the most, even more than the Sangres. The peaks were freshly white yesterday but today's consistently strong winds moved that very light, fresh and cold powder elsewhere hence the photo showing minimal snow. At 9,200' it has been below zero the past couple nights with a high of 17 yesterday. Saturday looks much warmer with mild wind and once again blue sky. Considering how much snow fell and how little is visible on open slopes after the strong winds you'll encounter anywhere from no snow to very deep drifts in places where the wind deposited it. I haven't driven up the SoCo road recently so I have no idea how far an average 4x4 vehicle can make it. I'd bring tire chains and a shovel. Please don't get stuck. Good luck, have fun and be safe.

Road is good all the way to the upper TH, provided you have good tread and obviously 4WD. There was only 1-2” of fresh fluff on the road on Thursday night, and nothing underneath that. It didn’t melt during the day and it might be a tad slick in spots from the weight of a couple vehicles, but nothing serious. The wind on the upper east ridge was ferocious today, but tomorrow should be perfect.
