Winfield Access during Leadville100

Post by ThuChad »

What’s access to the trailheads around Winfield like when the LT100 is going on this weekend? Is it race crews only or will they let anyone up to Winfield?
I'm just pretending to be a poseur.

Super-congested--best to go somewhere else.

Also, there's already a current thread going on for this topic.

It's public access. You shouldn't have a problem if you arrive early in the morning, since Winfield is 50 miles into the race. Driving out in the afternoon will be busy. I did it last year and it really wasn't bad though. Fun to see people running too. It's not like 2013 (?) when they had like 1300 people running Leadville. They cut down the numbers a lot.

They'll stop you from going beyond ~Sheep Gulch in the afternoon - there's just no where to park. I would avoid the entire area until the race is over. If you arrive beforehand early, good luck getting out without a traffic jam.
