Looking for road condition tool

Post by WonderbreadCO »

Hello all! New to the website and very first post! I'm currently planning a tour of several 14ers along the Sawatch range and I want to take my enormous (23') camper with me. I'm currently charting out the route I'm going to take and because it doesn't do too well across super rough terrain, I'm looking for a tool that I can use which will tell me all the information about surrounding roads. I basically need to figure out which roads I can access and how close I can get to trailheads. Specifically I want to know if they are paved or not, the condition of the road, the slope it's on, the width, if it's 4wd and what class of 4wd it is. I see that the maps on this website have an overlay function which labels which roads are 4wd but don't offer much more information. Any leads to help would be much appreciated!

I'm old, slow and fat. Unfortunately, those are my good qualities.

I've got a 20' camper and I think it's only been on about five 14er trips. Although it took me like 9 years to do all 58 peaks, I did most of them as day trips. Dragging a camper out to do a 14er generally turned it into a multi-day trip and tripled the amount of prep time before leaving town. Fortunately, my truck has a topper so it's like a mobile tent in the back.

If you're going to do the Sawatch, I recommend Snowy Peaks RV just north of Buena Vista. I've been going there for like 15 years and it has always been good...
