Ouray County has declared an emergency disaster due to flooding and mudslides caused by heavy monsoonal rains in the past two weeks. I am planning to climb the Wilson Group and other 13ers in the area next week. Has anyone been there recently and have any current info on the conditions for the Wilsons/El Diente etc and Kilpacker/Navajo basins?

I wouldn’t expect Kilpacker/Navajo to be impacted by the mudslides. The disaster declaration might have been for the alpine 4wd roads that go out of Ouray. Kilpacker/navajo are both easy 2wd roads that should probably be fine to go up regardless of rainfall

I was able to climb the Wilson Group plus Gladstone on 8/15 via Kilpacker and had no issues. The day prior I had hiked by Bridal Veil Falls and saw a mudslide on a hairpin that blocked vehicles on Black Bear Pass. I'd assume the declaration would be to help repair that road and the other steep 4x4 alpine passes in the area.

Imogene Pass closed again yesterday after briefly opening after a closure last week. Possible this may impact the foot race set for September 7, but hopefully they can clear the road and keep it open.

Black Bear Pass closed for the season due to damage caused by mudslides.
