Mt.Guyot AKA hiking the scramble.

So been on my list to hike in the summer for sometime now and I saw that no one has done an update post on this SINCE 2016 in the Summer. I understand it is very popular to ski in the winter but thought it could be useful for summer hiking. First off the hike round trip took me 7 hours. 3.5 hours up and 2.5 hours down with about an 1 hour of stopping and hanging out on the Summit. So a few updates on this hike.

1: You will want to park at the trail head for French Gluch Road. You can NO LONGER drive up to Little French Gulch like most of the sites say. So you will have to walk on the dirt road to the trailhead so make sure you plan an additional 30 minutes to walk to the trail. Once on the Little French Gulch you will follow that for another 30 minutes till you reach the base of the valley of Mt. Guyot. STAY RIGHT as you will want to take the trail that goes right NOT LEFT.

2. Once here you probably are thinking to yourself "wow the top doesn't look too far away" well jokes on you. THERE IS NO TRAIL! You will finish out the Little French Gulch trail you will be looking straight up a loose rock field. This will be the worst section of the hike. I decided to go slightly left up the wall but that ended up being the worst decision I could have possibly done. I should have gone RIGHT FAR RIGHT. It would almost be wise to back track down the trail a little so you can hike in the trees/grass up. Grass/trees are you FRIEND. I think I would have cut off an additional 30 minutes if I did this.

3. Once you hit the 1st ridge you will see a little tiny trail! WAHOO! But don't be too excited it sends pretty quick. It was made by the mountain goats and some kind people did make a few cairns. This section is pretty nice not to steep and most the rocks are somewhat stable.

4. You will then reach a flat section really lovely with grass right before your final climb to the top. Again someone was very nice and put up cairns however don't expect there to be a trail longer than 10 feet after the carin. It's very much a scramble to the top. From here it took up about an hour and a half to reach the ridge.

5. Once you reach the ridge you will see the Summit to the left and want to cry happy tears. It takes just a few minutes to walk over very easy again just be smart and don't hike to close to the right because there is a massive drop on that side. Stick closer to the left and you will be golden.

6. YOU DID IT! Fantastic views and when I went it was not windy at all on top so was enjoyable to hang around for sometime. I will say hiking down is a battle in itself with all the lose rocks. But this hike is one of the most rewarding in Summit and better yet you won't see anyone else up with you.

Started at 5 AM back to the car by 12 PM. Pack lots of water and enjoy the best day EVER!
