An easy and pretty route, the northeast slopes of Buckskin are generally without trail. There's a trail from Kite Lake Trailhead but it actually goes to Lake Emma, so your best bet is to generally just go in a straight line up Buckskin. There's some trail segments here and there but they're usually considerably looser than the tundra or the talus, so I avoided them; you might want to as well. Buckskin has two summits and the farther one (farther to the northwest) is by all indications the higher of the two despite not being marked so on maps. It appears higher from the southeast summit; the southeast summit appears lower from the northwest summit; the northwest summit has a much larger cairn and the summit register. The traverse between the two is Class 2, maybe Class 2+ in a very direct line. |
