Perfect weather day on Ouray! You can stay mostly dry to about 10,700 by bushwhacking and staying to the right (north) of the trail until the creek splits around 10,700. At that point you can boot over the snow to the base of the drainage. Here we used spikes all the way up to the summit. The slopes out of the armchair are a mix of snow and exposed rock/tundra. The rock is mostly stable. The upper portions of the ridge is mostly snow covered barring exposed rocks in places.

We didn't use our snow shoes until we got back down to the top of the drainage. We wore them from that point to the 10,700 cut off to dry bushwhacking. The post holing is unavoidable. But the snow is soft and slushy in the afternoon making it not too difficult to get through it.

Road is completely clear.

Other than our own prints, we saw Lots of fresh bear tracks. They're awake!
