Details

Northwest Slopes are in borderline summer condition. Micro spikes are still worth the weight in the a.m., and gaiters were helpful for the 3-5 memorable postholes. A few more nice days and this route might be clear.

Mostly sunny. Wind gusts up to ~20 mph above tree line. ~40 degrees F on the summit.

No, it wasn't open yet. Made the route about 16 miles car to car.

I hiked Pikes this last Saturday from Crags Campground Trailhead. Not sure which road you are referring to, but the road to the summit was open with many cars up top.

The road to Crags Campground is closed about a mile from the actual trailhead.

Agree with above condition update. Route through the trees into the basin still holds ice and snow partially.
