Great day on Torreys! The Emperor Couloir was in and lots of people were skiing it and Dead Dog today. I hiked up the easy South Slopes trail and skied down Emperor, which works as long as you only drive as far as the Grays/Torreys junction (and are aware of avalanche conditions in the colouir of course). There were a couple sections on the trail that were crossing a moderate angle snow field. I was able to do it with poles and shoes, but spikes and axe would probably be a best practice. On the ski down around noon, snow started a little hard at the summit, was about perfect from 13,500 to 12,000, then got very slushy. Only tricky thing is the track out, as there is a couple mile section with intermittent snow coverage and dry which I ended up hiking in my boots.
