We skinned the first 1,000 feet from the upper trailhead before icy suncups made us bootpack to 13,200 feet. We left the skis there and went to the summit which was almost completely clear of snow. By noon the skiing back down the bowl was nice corn snow.
What was the road like getting up to the upper trailhead? I exchanged emails with Carlos recently and he said cars wouldn€„¢t be able to get up to 4way or the upper trailhead till early July. I€„¢m fine with starting at the HQ but it€„¢d definitely be more tolerable if the road is in good condition
The road up to about 0.5 miles from the upper trailhead is completely dry and it great condition. The last 0.5 miles to the upper trailhead had a few small snowdrifts that were doable for a Jeep Compass 4x4. By next weekend I would guess the snowdrifts will be completely gone. I would imagine even a Subaru should be able to make it to the top.
