Made it all the way to the 4x4 trailhead, only one sketchy part where I was glad to have 4 wheel drive. Camped out overnight, there are a couple spots to throw up a tent. Woke up and it was 37 degrees out and started my hike at 6:30a. There were about a dozen spots with snow, a couple you could hike around and a couple more would have been nice to have spikes because of the decent. I was fine with my boots. No post holing until the way back, where I sunk to mid calf 3 times, otherwise it wasn't a big deal. A lot of up and downs on this route, the last hike up on he way back is kind of a pain, but overall an easy 11 mile hike (for a 14er). My pace is average, maybe avg-slow and took me 7.5 hours. Several false summits once you start the final climb, don't let them fool you like they did me!
Hi, I'm looking at the route. From your comments I will bring gaiters and microspikes. I want to avoid all the downed trees on the standard route. What vehicle did you take to the TH?
Thanks, Wineguy
