Having the Evans summit mostly to ourselves on a Thursday was magic! Willow whacking, even with spare teva sandals, in the morning was very wet and very cold. HOWEVER, we found a much better willow route on our way back down that avoided most swampage and was 90% solid trail the whole way. After you cross the creek, wait until after you pass the giant ~10 foot boulder on the left of the main Bierstadt trail. Then you'll see a stripped flagging attached to a bush with a faint trail. That's the one to go for. You will still get muddy though.
