Prize Benchmark is off by itself on this loop (Middle A->13,460 A->Prize Benchmark->"Booby Prize") and the ridge between it and 13,460 A has some ups and downs. It's hard to tell from 13,460 A's summit but the ridge is easier than it looks. Scramble and hike down from 13,460 A and up and over or around a couple of bumps to the (very) low saddle between the two peaks. Begin ascending Prize Benchmark, keeping an eye out for a narrow dirt path that leads around the south side of the ridge. This isn't the technical crux but is definitely the worst part of the route - the slope is steep and loose, the path is maybe a foot wide and crumbling, and any rock you can grab with your hands is suspect. The path leads to a crummy, loose Class 2+/3 gully to the ridge crest, and the remaining route is obvious from there. There's a couple of Class 3 spots but they're generally short and not exposed. |
