Summer hiking conditions with a few, very small, patches of snow that were easily walked through or around. No need for snow gear of any kind: gaitors, ice axe, micro spikes, snowshoes, etc. Beautiful trail, some wild flowers were in bloom and the aspen trees have leaved out. Venable Lake is completely thawed with some big fish swimming about.

Just FYI, conditions were much different today after several inches of snow last night. I turned around at the terrace due to very frequent rockfall/icefall. I'm sure it'll be back to summer conditions after a day or two of sun

What a difference a day makes....

Think you would have been ok, if you'd taken Venable Pass and then come up that way? I have a friend that might go up tomorrow.

The whole thing may be back to melted out by now if they've had some sun down there . . . it was starting to poke out the last hour before I got back to the car. As an alternative you can always just gain the ridge and head to Venable's summit that way, bypassing the terrace altogether. I started to head up there but the summit was getting socked in so I changed my mind. The ridge looked fine, but I'm not sure if the route gets spicy near the summit or not since I've never read anything about it.

Much appreciated...
