Condition Update

The approach trail is completely dry. Once on the meadow approaching the saddle of E. Buffalo and 12,644 there is some mud from runoff water, but it is easily avoidable. Whenever descending W Buffalo to return to the meadow, there is some snow lingering in a couple gullies, but the snow is soft enough to kick sidehill steps in. Also, there is no summit register paper or lid anymore on E. Buffalo; All I found was a PVC tube inudated with water.

I did these on Friday. We did not cross those snow gullies on W Buffalo, but went straight into the trees to get back to that meadow. The bushwhacking wasn't that bad. Did you run into the moose about .5 mile from the TH?

We probably should have dropped more, as we tried to maintain elevation early on, but in the end, we were forced to lose it descending into the numerous creek drainages. Looking from the peaks themselves, we could see fallen trees, so we delayed entering the forest as much as possible, but there always seemed to be a path that offered minimal resistance. We didn't see the moose, but there was sure moose scat and large hoof prints in the mud in the last meadow.
