Route: Ptarmigan NE Slope Posted On: 2020-12-08, By: angryInfo: From direct route I took up Ptarmigan, ridge is combo snow and exposed rock/tundra. Also descended direct line from saddle to rejoin road rather than head to standard route. Nobody had been on road, so trenched back to where parked punching around 4 inches, occasionally no more than a foot. Did not use traction or flotation. |

Route: Ptarmigan and Weston from Weston PassPosted On: 2018-03-14, By: kingshimmersInfo: Coming from the west (Leadville side), winter road plowing stops ~6.5 miles below Weston Pass. There is a pullout for parking at this point; see the Weston Pass TH condition report for more details. The road starts off patchy and icy and becomes gradually deeper and still mostly icy. The pass itself is windblown with patchy snow coverage. The west side of Weston/Ptarmigan is extremely windblown with almost no snow all the way up to the ridge, and little beyond that. No traction or flotation are needed from the pass up. |

Route: Ptarmigan and Weston from Weston PassPosted On: 2016-09-10, By: jasayrevtInfo: Clear and very nice enjoyable trip w/ reaching summits. Invigorating, Inspiring Hobby. Great, beautiful 13er mountains. This quality, classic route is a unique undertaking and lightly traveled. Incredible views of Sawatch / Mosquito Range peaks. Prime, excellent, and bluebird summer conditions up high for navigating slopes and ridge line extremely well. Trail runners and light pack were good. Climb safely / swiftly in the hills folks.
