Status Update
Road thru ranch to the upper 4wd trailhead was in good condition today. Parked at lower Fourway trailhead just to get some extra vertical, but most other vehicles drove up to the upper trailhead one mile farther with no issue. Honestly, I think the road between Fourway and the upper trailhead is easier than the section between the ranch headquarters and Fourway. No clearance issues at all. We drove a Ford F-150, but I would have been comfortable driving my Subaru. Road is a bit steep approaching Fourway, so low gear while descending is advised. Power would be the biggest issue getting up the steep sections, not clearance. Slept in truck at gate. Ranch hand arrived 5:50 AM and promptly opened the gate and escorted hikers to headquarters to sign in at 6 AM. Hiking by 6:35 am. Tent camping is just inside the gate along with clean porta potty.

ridergirl	camping? 08/10/2015 21:48 Hello Mtgirl. We are heading out next week and planning on camping inside the gate. Are the gates locked at a certain time in the evening? Or are cars parked outside the gate and only tents allowed inside...accessible via a foot path? There’s no information about this and I’m a bit confused. Thanks
mtgirl	camping 08/11/2015 06:55 Hi ridergirl. The gate will most likely be locked the entire time you’re camping. When I went, those that spent the night at the gate (outside the gate) all slept in their vehicles, except one guy who pitched a tent alongside his vehicle. You will not be able to get your vehicle to the designated camping space, which is just INSIDE the gate. The porta potty is also just INSIDE the gate. I assume it’s OK to climb over gate to use the camp spaces and porta potty (I did, as did others). There is a sign that reads "CAMPING" just across from the porta potty. It didn’t appear very beaten down or used often. If you sleep outside the gate, bring ear plugs, as everyone is in close proximity to eachother. Any other questions, just let me know. Enjoy !
