Hey, I did both Huron and La Plata last week in a Jeep Liberty with 7.9 clearance.
I actually think Huron was slightly tougher. It had more undulating surfaces. La Plata had quite a few medium size rocks across the trail but most of these could be easily navigated around in a lower clearance vehicle. A few stream crossings but these were low last week (a few inches).
Once you get to the right hand turn off near the trailhead, stop and park. You won€„˘t get any further than that.
Great news. And looks like we€„˘ve been looking at the same mountains.
I started on Baldwin Gulch yesterday, and tbh reversed out. Didn€„˘t like it at all. I may have been over cautious but I could see me ripping something apart on a tall rock.
The two trails on Winfield are ranked 3 for difficulty on this site, whereas Baldwin is a 4. I could see why.
Maybe it€„˘s just the start that€„˘s tough, because from the photos once you€„˘re on the mountain it looks ok.
I deinftelt think you need some high clearance (higher than my 7.9) and solid AT tires.
