Two words: Vehicular. Abuse. The road isn't particularly difficult as far as dodging huge rocks or obstacles, but it is a whopping 10 miles long, extremely rocky, covered in slabs, full of muddy potholes, and the "smooth" sections too few and too short to be worth mentioning. It took me about two hours up and two hours down in my 170" wheelbase Sprinter 4x4, so vehicle size is pretty much irrelevant, just have good tires, good clearance, and good driving skills. A Subaru Outback did make it up (I would not recommend this at all) as did a pickup with horse trailer (ditto), so careful driving will probably get just about any vehicle up.
