Driving Directions

NOTE: This is not an official trailhead and can only be accessed in Summer months when the pull-off is dry. From Fairplay, take Colorado 9 to the town of Alma. From the center of Alma, continue north on Highway 9 for about 1/2 mile and turn left onto County Road 6 (dirt). Start measuring mileage from here and drive 1.4 miles on CR 6 and turn left onto Quartzville road. Near 2.2 miles, stay left at a confusing intersection. Near 3.5 miles, pass the intersection of Zinc Road. Continue right up the Quartzville road for another 0.1 mile to find a small, unmarked pull-off on the east side of the road.

Winter Access

In Winter, there is no parking available near Moose Creek and the pull-off is usually not plowed. Please use Kite Lake access in Winter.

Info: The pull-off is accessible right now. There’s only room for a couple of cars.

NOTE: If you park here, be sure to hike up through the public land directly across the road. Please do your homework first to make sure you don’t go through the private, residential lots on the west side of the road.

Info: Please do not park at the junction of Zinc and Quartzville roads - use the pull-off described in the directions OR use the Quarztville TH instead. In snowy-months, before Quartzville is accessible, consider having someone drop you off if you plan to hike in the Moose Creek/Quartzville area OR use the Kite Lake approach.
