Attention visitors- due to a Federal Highways Administration DOT closure, the Denny Creek trailhead on Cottonwood Pass in the #SalidaRD will be closed this 2018 season. Visitors hoping to climb to the peak of #MtYale may want to consider postponing their ascent until 2019. The Avalanche Creek Trailhead access is not a recommended trail due to the length of exposure along the ridgeline, technical sections, and absence of a constructed trail. Use of this route will cause resource damage in the fragile alpine environment.

Anyone interested in learning more about the Cottonwood Pass project and closure may visit the Cottonwood Pass Overview page at http://cottonwood-co.dot.gov

Info: I emailed someone in the Chaffee County office, and he said the Denny Creek Trailhead should be open this weekend (3/31) and next weekend (4/7). The contract has not be awarded yet, and no construction schedule has been released.

Info: Dry and clear to the trailhead. Cottonwood Pass is still closed.

Info: Clear to trailhead, but the road is not plowed past it.

Info: Cottonwood Pass is closed, but 306 is open to the trailhead with only a thin layer of snow/ice in parts that any car should be able to manage. The road past the trailhead is normally closed to cars and used for snowmobiling, but this was actually still open (though not needed).

Info: Road is open to the TH, but no farther. Hard packed snow and some ice on the road, but any vehicle should be able to get to Denny Creek TH no problem.

Info: Clear road to the TH. The gate is closed halfway across the road as mentioned. One sign says Road Closed. Another says No Snow Removal on Gunnison County Side of Pass. Another says Pass Closed Hunter Access Only.
I drove to the Cottonwood Pass summit (12,126 ft) which has a combination of dry roads and drifted areas. The majority of the road is in snow some of it pretty deep. A deep drift immediately on the other side of the pass summit seems to be stopping people from going any further.
