3 (0=Paved, 6=Very Difficult 4WD)TH located near old town site of Pittsburgh about 7 miles up Slate River Road out of Crested Butte
This TH may be used to access Daisy Pass, Augusta, Richmond, and other 12ers and 13ers in the area. The initial creek crossing was fine for higher clearance vehicles on 6/23/2013. The water level may be higher in the afternoon in the spring or early summer. The road is easier 4WD for about 3 miles. Avoid the cabin driveways which are obvious. In early summer, there is one large water hole in the road in the last mile which may need 4WD, clearance, and some momentum to clear easily. There is not a designated parking area but parking is available near the driving road's end. Continue hiking up the road for Augusta or cross the stream and head to Daisy Pass or Richmond. Wading the stream may be required so come prepared.
This road is closed in winter and makes a nice cross country ski trip.
