1 (0=Paved, 6=Very Difficult 4WD)The parking lot is small (5ish vehicles) and narrow. The access road is short but narrow. The trailhead sign is visible from US 550 but only in the southbound direction, and by the time it's visible you'll have driven past the access road. Do NOT bring a trailer to this trailhead, there is no place to turn around. Coordinates mark the start of the access road, not the parking area/sign. No bathrooms or other facilities.
Measuring from the intersection of US 550 and Ouray County Road 361 (also known as Camp Bird Road) just south of Ouray, drive 8.1 miles south on US 550 and turn right onto a small, unmarked, gravel road hidden in the trees. Dead ahead is the remains of an old mine, so turn left and park in the small lot. The trailhead sign is here at the lot, not at the start of the road.
