3(0=Paved, 6=Very Difficult 4WD) Plenty of dispersed camping near the trailhead. No bathrooms or other facilities. The closest bathrooms are up the road at South Mineral Campground.
From the junction of US Highway 550 and San Juan County Road 110 in Silverton, head north on US 550 for 2 miles, then turn west onto FS-585. Drive 7 miles to the end of the road, reaching the trailhead. In the first several miles you will pass several free Forest Service Campgrounds, and about 4 miles in you will reach South Mineral Creek Campground, which has a large parking lot. This is the end of the easy 2WD road, and the next several miles are rougher and require at least moderate clearance and/or careful driving. There is a creek crossing which may be difficult or impassable in high runoff.
Unknown but almost certainly not maintained off of US 550.
