 Taylor Mtn. via Kangaroo Gulch

The November snows were still holding off so four of us made the trek to Salida for a Sunday attempt of Taylor and Aetna. The forecast winds that had held off on weekends past to produce bluebird days a bit further north, were not holding back this time. A non factor in the trees but once we took on the final 2500 feet to the summit, we had ample notice of the wind factor that would be a part of the climb up, at our backs, and the climb down, in the face.

We found little snow but what did lie in the base of the gulch above tree line would generally support our weight for an easy first third of the climb up the wide gulch. Then it was on to grass and later the large talus and boulders that guard the ridge crest. One false summit later we were atop Taylor and looking at the crossing to Aetna.

Hats off to the three climbers about an hour ahead of us. We thought about following, as was our plan but we had enough cold hands and feet around the group to opt instead for burgers sooner than later. Regardless, kudos to you three for taking on the traverse, well done!

The usual Climbing with Bob Narrative for anyone interested.
