 Carbonate / Cyclone 2'fer

The weather was simply too good not to try to pick up a couple of Bicentennials on Sunday. Our group did the drive from Cheyenne to just above the Angel of Shavano CG to camp for the night before driving to the TH the next morning. Given thatt between two of us we have well over 300 14'ers and 13'ers, we managed to park at the wrong pull off, take the wrong trail, lose that trail, drop to the level of reading the map while mocking one another, then cut cross country to slog through snow hummocks and then willows before finally getting out of the damned woods and starting to climb.

Clearly we were having the usual time, a good time, when we exited the woods and instead of going further up valley, we took the swale adjacent to the swooping Southern Ridge of Carbonate, that provided enough snow to climb half the elevation needed to gain the high flats below the summit. From there it was a class 1 to 1+ hike to the summit of Carbonate and then to the summit of Cyclone. We thought about the hike to Grizzly but when we weighed the option of a decent meal on the way home vs. the 35 to 40 mph winds, we opted for the burgers instead of the slog.
