That peak is a royal pain, though the views/cliffs are pretty impressive. You didn’t even get to experience the many false summits, one false summit even had an erroneous summit register! I knew I finally had the right summit when I found a register with the Roach’s names. The "side" trip took me way longer than the entire ascent of Guadalupe, and certainly left its mark on my legs. I was super freaked about rattlers in all the bush, but avoided any encounters. Great pics and story!
I have been thinking about Guadelupe National Park for a while now. Looks like a beautiful, desolate place. I have an unusual fondness for rattlesnakes, so looks like I would enjoy it in that regard as well!
