 Skiing Bancroft taters

Awesome skiing for June

Got up late, hit the snooze button 3-4 times.
Finally decided to go up to St Marys/Alice and see what I could find.
My dog is a husky and I was getting a bit worried if he didn't find some snow soon he was going to go nutz. Or maybe that was me.
Dropped my wife off at Black Hawk, made it up to just shy of the seasonal gate closing on Stewart rd, just before the bend with the big rock and the fantastic views of Eva and Parry.
Hiked up to the Loch got my feet soaked crossing the stream in the road by the last gate. Finally found some snow to skin on through the trees by the road, Picture shows a snow bridge over the stream just before the Loch, snow is a good 4' deep in this spot

From here I found my own way up to the SW ridge, cramponed up the steep snowbank to the S of the Loch followed the ridge including some fun boulder hopping all along the ridge with great views to the S.
The weather was with me and stayed overcast all day which really kept the already slushy surface from getting dangerous.
My trusty dog and I followed the ridge line and climbed a steep scree slope up to the S side of the bowl, then skinned up to the summit. Niko on the summit

And the obligatory Grays/Torreys looking very snowy for June

After enjoying the top for a few minutes we decided to start down as the snow was already soft and had quite a bit of water in it, the only thing that saved this day were the clouds.
Skied off the summit towards the bowl in fairly heavy taters, the bowl itself had several point releases on the steeper face to the N side mostly from the previous day. Today the top 4-6 inches were pretty slushy but wasn't sliding below that and what was on top wasn't going far or fast.
Skied down to Lake Caroline actually pretty fun

Looking at the bowl from Lake Caroline, look lookers right you can see the point releases from the rocks on the steeper face.

made it around the lake then had to take of the skis for about 200 yards and found another slope that took us all the way down to Loch Lomond

In total I skied and Niko ran, rolled and generally frolicked like only a husky can in the snow from 13,250' down to 11,200. We made it all the way around to the E end of the Lake, had a nice walk back to the car.
A great day in the mountains, with a bit of skinning, a little cramponing, some boulder hopping and almost 2000' of skiing. Not to shabby for June.

Great trip and pics! I was on Flora, Eva, and Parry on the same day and thought I saw several people at the summit of Bancroft around 10:30 am. Also, the steep north side of the bowl where you saw the point releases is sometimes called "Sweet Caroline". When it is more filled in with snow earlier in the season (May) it can be a spicy and steep descent!

Appreciate the info, it looked like a good line, been a crazy year. Lots of snow still left, hopefully some of the water drains out of it. I saw that group they were about an hr ahead of Niko and i

I started about half way up Stewart rd about 8:45, in the top by 12:30 back at the car by 2:30. Consistent cloud cover and even a few specks of ice falling on the summit kept the snow about the same all day, sun would have made it a bit different
There was no freeze at any elevation.
