The start of this trek began at the Eddiesville Trailhead, followed a trail off and on up the Canon Hondo drainage, to the northeast ridge on Organ Mt., traversed between two peaks that I noticed there was not a report that combining these two peaks together, so here is one now...
I followed the trail out from the Eddiesville Trailhead, some way missed the turn, I suppose, that heads up Canon Hondo. After a bit of easy going through the trees along the west side of the creek, it did get to be some more of a bushwhack until I decided it looked better across the other side of the creek, and if I was a trail that is where I would be. That would prove to be true as I crossed a meadow and the creek to find the trail. Billie Jean and I followed the trail up to above 11,000 feet where it faded away.
Once across to the slopes of 13015 it looked like it might be better to follow the west ridge farther down before descending, I descended fairly quickly below Organ Mt.
Give it a second or two...
A creek crossing after crossing SkyLine Trail, bushwhacking through the dead forest, found a bit of a track and then to these slopes...

Outlaws
I love the mountains...and willows and violin players...
Thunderstruck as it rained and thundered out
Time to go...
14.4 miles and 5200 feet (13402 would add several miles and 1800-2000 more vertical)
see you in Snowmass this weekend where I will be competing on, yes you guessed it, the Great "Highland" Bagpipes...
okay so I did not use any "Hondo" theme stuff
My GPS Tracks on Google Maps (made from a .GPX file upload):
12 years makes. When we did Organ "a.k.a. Orgar", there was a summit cairn that was easily 6 feet tall and about 3 feet in diameter. My husband and I took many funny photos with that cairn. Love the "stealth" Billie Jean photo (#2). Sad to see so much beetle kill in that area (another difference over time). Thanks for posting. Happy Trails you two! (By the way, the "Orgar" instead of "Organ" is due to the topo we had ... yes, people, it was made of paper and there was crease where the summit name was and it made it look like "Orgar". So, we have called it "Orgar" ever since. )
She sure does lead you on some nice hikes, doesn't she? And I'm with Presto - the stealth photo is great. Thanks for posting this Al. You always take the road less traveled.
Who can forget Eddiesville TH approach. And I thought it was Canyon Diablo, not Hondo? Wonder if the register on UN 13,015 still there. Thanks for sharing, brings back good memories.
thanks Natalie for your response to the report, yes there is a register on 13015, which showed the last entry as July 2015. not sure if that was because the register was wet/damp or people could not get the pen to work, or if it is that lonely a peak. funny I did not find one on Organ or Orgar even. The way I went up shows on my map as Hondo and the drainage between 13015 and 13402 shows up as Canon Diablo, which drops down to the Skyline Trail, so that is what I used.
thanks again Natalie, Terry and Jay
