An Orphan by Organ - Lake Fork Cochetopa Creek Trail

This is going to be fast and furious reporting as I have not had more than a few minutes to think about putting this together and am leaving in a few more minutes to fly back to PA for a visit with my college buddies, 40th year after college graduation get together, where has the time gone...just like this summer has flown by too...

The bottom line is that my gps showed 20.4 miles and about 4200 feet.

This was a nice trail hike practically to the summit of PT 13402. If you stepped on a rock before the last 150 yards at the top it would have been intentional (only a slight exaggeration). No hanging your arse over some knife edge or steep ridge pitch on this one. Pleasant meadows, flowers, the occasional moose, mostly nice weather with an almost gentle rain getting back out.

Be sure to take the lat/laong for Table Mountain as it would fit about a hundred Longs Peak summits on its top as it is about a mile and a half long by 3/4 miles wide on top, and pretty darn flat too.

Billie Jean...

... always leads you on some nice hikes, doesn't she?

Nice alternative!

I like the variation to 13,402. I'll have to use this approach when I go out there for it and 13,015, my last La Garita 13ers.

I orphaned Organ a couple summers ago. Everything kinda looks the same to me back there, lots of beetle kill, rolling 70's color themes and a whole lotta moose.

thank you one and all

Jay as usual thank you for the comment, Billie Jean says ditto

great to have received a comment from two of Jay521's "machine" gunners, thank you.

Otina, this may be way too docile for you but it is a nice way to go, quiet and a soloists route but adding 13015 will make it worthwhile

Amy, this was kind of a long way to go for one peak, but it had to be done (weighs on the mind those orphans, at least mine do), but adding the other peak helps. all I can say is that is sad to see all the dead trees on a nice hike

Trotter, I like the obscure peaks and being the first one there for the year or maybe with some peaks the only one there in the year
