Jagged Mountain and Knife Point via Beartown

Jagged Mountain and Knife Point... what an adventure! Photographing the eclipse from Knife Point was fun...

Gnarly approach, amazing mountaineering, rappelling, goats, killer views... a trip that has it all! Thanks Natalie (snowalien) for the invite, and thanks Shawn (Grizzly Adams) for the great trip!

I added my GoPro footage... about 30 minutes worth. I have footage from most of the technical sections.

As usual, I'm posting just a few teaser images here... for the full trip report head over to my website! Thanks!

If anyone can do any justice to the Sunlight creek basin scenery, it's you Matt. Oh and congrats on another Centennial - great climbing with you!

@TomPierce - I knew you were going with Jon F a few days after us (he told me after I invited him). To be fair, having done both, NoName approach is no gimme either. We could debate pros and cons of each approach, but in the end they are both rough, steep and long. Sunlight creek made more sense to us this time since Shawn and I were heading for Oso group in the Rock creek basin after the Jagged detour.

Your report gave me PTSD

Too funny, I just did this exact trip (actually just the Jagged portion) last weekend. Did it alone, and the...ahem, "challenges" of the Sunlight Creek approach in summer were quite character building! A wee bit on the wet side, no? Nothing that years of therapy won't resolve...

Agreed, a beautiful area and a fun, sporty peak. Great report!

... and that says it all, I think.

PTSD - haha

Yeah Tom - I hear that! That approach is the real deal, although, I think the No Name approach is slightly worse for some reason (less scenic)? And I felt like Ruby Basin was tougher as well. The rain the night before made the hike out so miserable... oy!

Excellent!

Great photos! Makes me want to go back, but then again it doesn't take much to get excited and hopeful for a return trip there! I haven't been up Sunlight Basin before though, and I hope to make that trip someday.

Thx man

Darin - Yes! I am already planning a return to the basin just to photograph Sunlight at sunrise from Knife Point... just like Jack Brauer did... and I have unfinished business with Sunlight Lake and Jagged at sunrise/sunset. So many peaks to photograph, so little time... haha.

Jagged is a great one. I look forward to getting back out there to grab some of its neighbors. Enjoyed your photos as always!
