 Windy Day up Blanca

I left Alamosa around 3am and got to the TH for lake como around 330. I have a 2WD car so I parked at the second lot ~1.5 mi in, but I definitely could have made it at least another mile up the lake como road. I started hiking up the road around 345am and made it to lake como around 7am.

the trail around lake como, you can see Little Bear

I got to the summit around 10am, but this was because the last mile the trail became a bit hard to find and I ended up just climbing 'up'. It was super windy up along the ridge so it felt a lot colder than it was. It was still around 40 degrees though and no snow up past the ledges. Future climbers should try and stay near the ridge when going up towards Blanca, I dipped too far down and had to make up a lot of lost altitude- but it was pretty fun climbing up the rocks!

on summit looking at Ellingwood

I was planning on doing the traverse over to Ellingwood, but it was too windy/I was getting really tired so I decided to head back. Will probably try to get Ellingwood from the Zapata falls TH in a couple weeks. Going back down took a while, I was probably on the summit for 10 ish mins and I got back to my car around 2pm- long day! I had my total mileage at just under 18 mi, but I parked pretty far down and lost the trail for a bit when I got near the summit.
