 NE route on election day

Road to N. Mt Elbert trailhead was clear, a little snow, but open all the way to trail head. Me and my dog climbed Mt Elbert Colorado's highest 14er sitting at 14,433 ft above sea level on Election Day. This is my second time doing this peak, last time I did the east ridge with my friend that was visiting from Florida. I wanted to do this trail because is the most common or standard summer route and because my dog Pike had not done it yet. We started at 5:40 am in the dark trying to make it above tree line by sunrise. The trail is pretty straight forward and easy to follow, there was just a few spots with snow, but well compacted. We were the first to make it to the summit by 8:00 am and the views were amazing, took a little breakfast break, had some water and back down we went. Ran the whole downhill and made it back to my car by 9:00am just in time to go VOTE!
