 Hoosier Ridge

Hiked Quandary on Sat and was looking for another low avy risk route to head to on Sun. After some reading and asking questions, I ended up with Hoosier Ridge from Hoosier Pass. Weather was picture perfect with blue sky and low winds to start, the winds picked up later in the day, but not too bad.

The route from the road to treeline was easy to follow with many sections of deep postholes (some even with snowshoes on). Wore snowshoes from the road to treeline and stashed them. I should have worn them up to the ridge and then stashed them as there was lots of post holing on the way out. Put on microspikes and worked our way up to attain the ridge, footing was good, still nice and cold. Once on the ridge we enjoyed the ride with the many bumps along the way.

This is a great route, only about 1000 ft to get to the ridge and then little ups and downs the rest of the day and not busy (we didn't see another hiker all day). Almost didn't make it to Hoosier Ridge as I thought that the second to last bump may have been it, but after studying it closer realized we still had one more bump to go. On the way back, snow started clumping and sticking on the microspikes, so I took them off and footing was fine with bareboot until descending the ridge where postholes were plenty. Got back to the snowshoe stash and put them on for the walk out.
