The Kelso Ridge/Kelso Peak is a great combo of challenge and solitude if you are looking for an easy access quick 13er from Denver. I hiked this last summer on a Wednesday afternoon and of course the parking lot for Grays and Torreys Peak was packed as usual. Personally I don't know why anyone would want to hike Grays or Torreys anymore? I think I run into less people on the Cherry Creek bike trail on a summer afternoon than these highly over used Mountains. All the more reason to hike what is arguably the most overlooked mountain. I passed at least 15 people in gym shoes, one in sandals (I will never forget that site... I actually laughed and shook my head as I passed him) and of course most if not all of these people were only carrying a water bottle. Coming down the trail was the morning herd of people, groups of 5-10 streaming down all about 2-3 minutes apart. My guess none of these people would even consider hiking the mountain that is paralleling them as they ramble on down the trail. What do you all think... A sunny Friday or weekend afternoon in June; Grays and Torrey's have a higher population than Bakerville?
Anyway, enough of a rant! Enjoy the pictures and the captions! Have a fun safe summer of hiking!
