What's with the haze?
View of the southern Sawatch from Salida right now:
InciWeb shows several fires in the state but nothing big enough to account for this level of haze. Anyone know, is it coming from fires further away?

Re: What's with the haze?
Its predominantly from the Bootleg Fire in Oregon.

It isn't any better in the Denver metro area.

I was in Northwestern Wyoming for the last four days. On Sunday it got so bad that even though there wasn't a cloud in the sky I couldn't see my shadow. The smoke effectively blotted out the Sun.

It's bad here in Fairplay too.

It's bad across most of the rockies. I wonder how much longer this blocking pattern will last. NOAA 6-10 shows it starting to drift into Canada.

Re: What's with the haze?
Yup. I’m in the Tetons right now, and you can’t even see the Cathedral Group that are normally visible from this vantage point in the far left of the picture (first picture). Views from the summit of the Middle Teton were very smoky two days ago.
The Bootleg Fire in Oregon is the main culprit, with fires in northern California and neighboring Idaho contributing as well. The smoke has now dropped all the way down into Colorado.

New normal apparently. Sucks indeed. Just as bad here in Utah. Earlier and earlier, longer and longer.

Re: What's with the haze?
One of the downsides of Colorado is being on the Eastern edge of the West. Pretty much any smoke from fires in the West will eventually make it's way to Colorado. So even if we have a "Good" year moisture wise it may not be enough to prevent smoke from fires elsewhere ruining the air quality.
Re: What's with the haze?
Lytton Canada recently recorded 121.3 degrees shattering the old record high temperatures for Canada by a long shot.
Apparently the ex-town won't be recording any more high temperature readings because the entire town seems to have been completely destroyed by a wildfire not long after. The weather station and town itself is gone.
