Best resources for weather preparedness?

Post by Wilhelm Scream »

I'd thought about doing the sawtooth Evans route tomorrow but google says there's a fairly highly chance of thunderstorms early in the morning so I was wondering what the best resources are for accurately planning the safety of your route the night before and can you rely upon reports that say conditions will be better in the days to come?

Many thanks!

I always look at the hourly forecast tool on this site. It will give you a good idea of the actual weather on the peak and the likelihood of thunderstorms and rain. Tomorrow looks a bit iffy to me, you will be exposed for awhile doing the sawtooth and it takes longer than you would think to get to the summit of Evans once you are done with the sawtooth. https://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.p ... =0&dd=&bw=

Much appreciated information and links and I'll leave the Sawtooth for another day with clearer conditions in the early morning since I'm new to this and it'll take me into noon for the more technical bits I imagine even with an early start. The early hailstorm on Holy Cross last year was miserable enough without the danger lol.
