Brainard Lake Open Fires
I have a friend who is camping at Brainard Lake this weekend and came across the fire restriction of no open flame what so ever. This included camp fire rings, stoves, etc according to what he read. I understand the fire danger at the moment but is this truly the case? Second, if this indeed is the case would include a fire inside of a pop-up be okay?

Per this: http://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/arp/home/ ... EPRD509862" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Looks like open campfires are prohibited, outside of campgrounds. Should still be able to use gas stoves and the like. Not sure if the sign at the lake was misread, or what.

Re: Brainard Lake Open Fires
At Stage 2 right now up there, so no burning anything, including fires at campgrounds. As far as a fire inside of a pop up trailer, that's something you don't want to do regardless of the fire restriction status.

Some say a fire in camper is a good start.

Re: Brainard Lake Open Fires
Per the FS:
Stage 2 Restrictions
The Boulder Ranger District has implemented Stage 2 fire restrictions, effective July 19, which means that campfires are now prohibited in all campgrounds on the Boulder Ranger District. This includes Meeker Park, Olive Ridge, Peaceful Valley, Camp Dick, Pawnee, Rainbow Lakes and Kelly Dahl campgrounds. The new restrictions include charcoal and wood burning stoves, grills and barbecues. Gas stoves, grills and lanterns with a shut-off valve are permitted when used at least three feet or more from flammable materials such as grass or pine needles. Under Stage 2 fire restrictions, smoking is allowed only within an enclosed vehicle or building. Campfires were already prohibited everywhere else on the Boulder Ranger District under Stage 1 fire restrictions.

Re: Brainard Lake Open Fires
I assume your friend is camping at Pawnee Campground, as that's the only camping allowed at Brainard. You can't have any fires, charcoal grills, wood stoves, etc. outside or within your pop-up, but you should still be able to bring a liquid-petrol or gas fueled campstove/backpacking stove. Double check with the forest service by calling their office at 303-541-2500.sieggy80305 wrote:I have a friend who is camping at Brainard Lake this weekend and came across the fire restriction of no open flame what so ever. Here's the link to the forest service page regarding the current regulations:
