Yankee Boy Basin upper TH open?
Anyone know if the YBB road is open all the way to the upper TH at 12,460 or is the gate still closed?

Unless I missed something I didn't see any gate blocking access to the th when I was there a few weeks ago, walked up the road from 11200ft. There were several large snow patches blocking access however. I would imagine those are gone though.

Re: Yankee Boy Basin upper TH open?
General question re: Yankee Boy: how sketchy is the shelf road section? I really want to do Sneffels soon but that road is the only thing that gives me pause.
Other roads I've been fine on: Cinnamon Pass, road between American Basin and Lake City, Castle Creek to Pearl Pass parking, Mt Priceton Rd, road to Huron, Jones Pass Rd...

The shelf road isn't too bad in theory. On the way to the trailhead you will be up against the mountain on the shelf. On the way back on the outside. Certainly not my favorite road but I have been on that road in an Xterra (near shelf ledge) and was side by side with a Cadillac Escalade that couldn't wait until I got to the end! That was a bit scary but if you take turns on the road or if you go early enough you should be fine! Also, seeing the other roads you have been on you should be fine. Hope this helps.

It's not. Rougher stuff is uphill crossing rutty, rocky drainage stuff.PaliKona wrote:General question re: Yankee Boy: how sketchy is the shelf road section?
