Mt Blue Sky road closed all of 2025

Post by peter303 »

For construction. It will tentatively open May 31 to September 2 2024. Echo Lake Lodge wont open this summer. Last year there was a food truck in their parking lot.

We'll have to climb Blue Sky the fun way: from Chicago Lakes or the sawtooth ridge.

It looks like the running Ascent is scheduled for June 23 and bicycle Climb July 20.

Note it will be closed to all users, including cyclists and pedestrians. So no peaceful car-free ride up unfortunately. They will be redoing the section by Summit Lake with the terrible frost heaves.

Thanks for the heads up.

It'll certainly be a bummer for a lot of people's summer plans but the road absolutely needs it and I can see why it's not practical to do a single lane closure. It'll make for an unusually peaceful summit for those willing to put in the work of the longer approach!

So you're saying the West ridge from Guanella pass is going to see a crap ton of traffic next summer?

There's gonna be a super highway through the willows.

That's for 2024 though? Full road closure is in 2025.

They should build one anyway, the willows suck at all times of the year. Either re-locate the TH to avoid them or build a pedestrian highway.

Building a trail through what's essentially a wetland area is just an overall terrible idea. The Bierstadt trail itself shows how much infrastructure is needed - and this is one of the most popular trails on any 14er. I don't think CFI would be game to do that for a non-standard route.

Yes, they should build a boardwalk immediately.
