Blue Sky/CO5 Road Status?

Post by merkelsn »

Hi All,

Planning to hike the West Ridge of Blue Sky on Friday 5/31. I know the road is scheduled to open, but I've seen a notice that road openings are delayed.

Can anyone shed any light on whether CO5 will be cleared up to Summit Lake parking lot this week?

Thanks!

I wouldn't necessarily count on it opening. They now say "tentatively" opening on May 31st and that it's weather-dependent. It looks like there's plenty of unpleasant weather occurring up there this week, so that could hamper clearing efforts. (I don't believe new accumulation is expected, just unpleasant and snowy/blowy weather.)

I would keep an eye on the Recreation.gov page where you'd go to make a timed entry reservation because that page has an alert set up, so I would assume it should be kept updated.

Thank you for the heads up! I do have a timed entry reservation, so now just hoping road clearance allows for cars up to Summit Lake.

Sweet! I hope so, too, for your sake. It should be a really stunning trek with all the snow right now, I think!
