I could go pick my nieces up from camp on saturday - after having successfully gotten up Byers on Friday...
...yet the plan may implode because i cannot spend the night in the Fraser Experimental Forest?
I call this experiment a failure. We already know its the woods. What more do we need out of it than that?

Fraser EF has been around longer than you, Jibs, and has contributed more than enough to improving forest science to justify camping limitations. It's amazing what daft idiots can do in research areas to completely bollocks up experimental results, not to mention using tax payer funded equipment as target practice.
There's plenty of camping north of Fraser. Good camping. Put on your big boy pants and drive just a little bit further. Excellent areas on the south boundary of the Church's Park fire perimeter, 20 min from Fraser.

still fighting the fight!
is this viable car camping along this forest road 50 here?

and if so - would these be the kind of spots to fill in quick on a friday night? i don't know why anyone would necessarily want to camp back there - but you never know

Familiarize yourself with the MVUM's. Each FS district has one available to download and it will tell you where dispersed camping is allowed. After you find if its allowed or not, zoom in on google sat view. If you do both you'll see its both allowed and there are several RVs parked along that road with multiple spur roads off indicating it is viable.
As for popularity, I wouldn't under estimate the popularity of a tourist destination (WP/Frasier Valley) close to Denver on a weekend.

^ agreed on MVUMs, GAIA gps has most MVUMs as well as a private property layer which is helpful is cases like this. But, yes there is definitely viable camping along CR50 and all the adjacent spur roads. You will want/need clearance and appreciate 4x4 or AWS to get up most of the spurs. I'm only ever back there during the week, but there are always plentiful spots open midweek. CR50 is a well traveled route between Fraser and the east side of the Gores so it does see a good bit of traffic and I'd expect spots to fill early on Fridays.

yes hoping to hear about actual experiences if possible - as that is a county road 50 - so i wonder if camping along that is allowed and that inholding near ptarmagin peak makes me think that road spur may be closed entirely?
familiar with all these map resources - but some times they are a bit opaque about the nitty gritty details. but i hate to plunge into wrong area when i coulda asked a bit to help dial plan in further. thanks.

St Louis campground is close by.
Re: No Camping in Fraser Experimental Forest? Byers Peak attempt!
Use the western route to Byers. It's more scenic anyway and there are plenty of places to camp on the area.
