I'd recommend checking out a smartphone radar app (e.g. MyRadar) then adjust down the settings to not be so data intensive. If you're in range of cell phone service, this useful aid will allow you to see how the weather is developing in your area. Be sure to never underestimate the weather in the mountains, I think everyone learns the hard way at one point or another.

Thanks for all the responses. Right now our plan is Elbert, and yes we'll be starting early in the am. I really appreciate everyone sharing their knowledge. Ppl on this site are awesome!
